Anthony A. Atkinson PhD, FCMA, MBA
Anthony (Tony) A. Atkinson is a Professor in the School of Accountancy, Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to joining Laurier, he was a professor at the University of Waterloo. Tony is also a Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada and holds an MBA from Queen’s University, Canada and an MSc and PhD from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. In 1989 he was awarded the Canadian Accounting Association’s prestigious Haim Falk Award for “Distinguished Contributions to Accounting Thought.”
Tony is the author or co-author of more than 40 articles in both professional and academic journals, the author or co-author of six monographs addressing management accounting issues in costing and performance evaluation, and the co-author, with Robert Kaplan, of two management accounting text books. Five of Tony’s articles have been awarded the International Federation of Accountants’ award of merit. He has served on the editorial boards of seven academic and professional journals and is a past editor of the Journal of Management Accounting Research.
Tony is the author of the Contract Costing Principles used by the Canadian Federal government, the author of the CMA Canada management accounting practice standards, the original co-author of the CMA Canada Strategic Leadership Program and the CMA Canada Executive Strategic Leadership Program. His teaching, research, and consulting work focus on issues in corporate governance, performance measurement, the balanced scorecard, strategy, and costing.
In the course of his consulting and research work Tony has worked with more than 200 organizations in all sectors. Consulting clients have included the Federal Government of Canada, the Government of the Province of Ontario, more than 20 for profit organizations, and four consulting firms including Deloitte & Touche, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. In addition Tony has provided executive development seminars in the areas of activity based costing, customer profitability, the balanced scorecard, target costing.
Tilda N. Mmegwa BSc, FCA, CMA, Macc.
Tilda Mmegwa is Senior Consultant with TDI Global. For over 30 years her expertise as Strategy Consultant, Trainer, Coach and Change Management Strategist have helped private and public-sector organizations achieve high performance. Over the years, Tilda has demonstrated profound strategic management skills in many scenarios. The Society of Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA) gave her the highest ranking, #1, in strategic thinking during her certification in 2006. She was also a CMA valedictorian nominee that year.
Tilda has been the lead consultant on many projects, such as the design and implementation of a strategic operational/financial management system for a multinational Canadian company. This system utilized several strategic management tools and integrated operations in Canada, the U.S, Honduras, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. This implementation was audited and certified by Deloitte and Touche Canada.
Tilda’s primary expertise lies in leadership, strategic management, corporate governance and training. As a business advisor she has provided leadership, strategic advisory, due diligence, regulatory compliance, risk management, training and corporate governance advisory services to both the public and private sectors. As a strategic advisor her core competence is in her ability to evaluate the status quo, analyze findings, draw conclusions and recommend a successful strategic course of action.
Tilda is also a University academic award winner for both undergraduate and graduate-level programs. Her high academic standing upon graduation from her Masters program, in Brock University, Canada, earned her an automatic life membership in the prestigious Beta-Gamma-Sigma, an International Honor Society of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Membership in Beta-Gamma-Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB.
Tilda is also a writer, coach, presenter and speaker. She writes and speaks on a variety of topics related to leadership, strategic management and corporate governance. Her recent article, “Improving the Delivery of Government Service to Citizens through Service Integration” was published in Commonwealth Innovation, a publication of the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management. Her upcoming book, “The Two Sides of a Coin TM: Secrets for Leadership in the Marketplace”, is due for release in 2009.
As a speaker, Tilda has addressed outreach events, retreats, conferences and seminars. Tilda presented at a Commonwealth Association’s conference in Tanzania in March 2009, on “Governance Excellence: Managing Human Potential”, where she focused on Staff Development through Coaching, Mentoring and Enhanced Education.
